The first craft house of percussion instrument - Changgo

Changgo (the traditional Korean hourglass-shaped drum) crafted by Hanullim is said to be the very necessity of all Korean classical musicians. It has become the standard of Changgo produced in Korea. By developing new paints with good features of natural lacquer, Hanullim Changgo is a product, which demands a high technology. It is made under strict quality standards. It has many advantages like antibiosis, deodorization, ventilation and durability etc. In addition, using various hides like horse, dog, goat and cow, a superb harmony of each different sound is another source of our pride for this instrument. It is safe to say that the product is made of our soul.

The second craft house of percussion instrument - Buk (drum)

Hanullim uses only the first grade thick cowhides as materials for our drum. For exquisite sound effect and solid body, glass fibers are contained in the drum. The technique is recognized even in Japan.

With the accumulated knowledge and a state-of-the-art technology of Hanullim, the sound of drum resonates throughout Korea and goes far to compete with that of Japan’s Daego (Taiko).

The secret of Stradivarius’ masterpieces was accomplished with selecting good materials, scientific dehydrating method and elaborating handicraft. However, as mentioned earlier, the most important secret of Stradivarius lies in coating procedure. Hanullim makes every effort to manufacture masterpieces, which exceed the fame of Stradivarius. Therefore, we adopt stringent rules to the manufacturing process ranging from selecting best Korean wood (paulownia or chestnut trees) to finishing with coating.

Hanullim’s danso is made of Oh-juk (black-colored bamboo) and Taegum (the Korean traditional bamboo flute) is made of Ssang-gol-juk (a kind of bamboo) of Mt. Kyongju. Our products are different from others even from their storage. For example, the craft house puts bamboos in a big refrigerator to keep them in a regular temperature and humidity. We manufacture our products under stringent quality process, which ranges from selecting best materials and careful storage to manufacturing.
